The unimaginable survival story of an Iberian brown bear and her cub, who had been attacked by a male bear throughout the mating season, has been reported by Castilla y León regional authorities.
Nature watchers had noticed the assault by the male, which weighed some 217kg. Male bears are recognized to kill cubs throughout the spring as they search to mate with females.
In the course of the ensuing battle each of the bigger bears fell off a cliff and plunged round 20 metres right into a wooded space under – the male sadly died within the fall.
